Morphology:

  • Mojave x Lesser x Hypomelanistic
  • Incomplete Dominant x Incomplete Dominant x Recessive

Simply put the Mojave x Lesser Blue Eyed Leucistic is one of the brightest versions of BEL. Adding Hypo to that combination really makes this combo POP with whites that are even whiter than those on a Piebald.

Mojave: The Mojave is an incomplete dominant or what many refer to as Co-Dominant mutation that produces a Ball Python with various shades of browns, vibrant yellows, deep blacks, blue- grey body color, creamy highlights and flames. Mojaves are typically very easy to recognize by what is commonly known as the “Mojave Pattern”.  Instead of the “alien head” we are used to seeing with many normal ball pythons, that pattern seems to be split in two, separated by intense amounts of flaming.  This pattern normally produces only one black dot inside what would be similar to a keyhole.  Another key trait on the Mojaves is a complete white underbelly. When a Mojave is bred to a normal, it will produce 50% Mojaves and 50% Normals. A Mojave breed to a Mojave will produce 25% Blue Eyed Lucys, 50% Mojaves, 25% Normals.

Lesser: The Lesser ball python is a base, Co-Dominant Morph. The Lesser will present itself in many different ways. It will appear from high yellow with tan coloration to a blushed out Mojave type. The homozygous form of the Lesser ball python is the Blue Eyed Leucistic, or BEL for short. The Lesser is in the same complex as Butter, Mojave, and Phantom morphs. When bred, the Lesser ball python will add color, and intensify blushing.

Hypomelanistic: Also known as Hypo or Ghost.  The “Ghost” is a recessive mutation that reduces the black pigmentation.  Although there are many different lines of ghosts, they generally follow the same general description.   Ghosts are varying shades of yellow, brown, grey and green.  Their sheds are always clear much like albinos, with faded dark colors with a faded head.  A ghost will always appear to be in shed or always seem to have a hazy appearance.
