Hello and welcome to the Genetic Dreams site.
Like many of you in the hobby and those new to the hobby my journey into reptiles began at an early age. I was lucky enough to have grown up a few blocks from where the Santa Ana River flowed almost year round on its way to the Pacific Ocean. I’d spend every day all day there searching for all sorts of wild critters. Studying their natural habitats, taking pictures, etc
My parents were afraid of the snakes and lizards so I’d have to sneak them into the house. But I always strove to recreate their natural habitat as much accurately as possible. After a while my parents realized that they couldn’t curb my “weird” hobby so they gave in and it wasn’t long before every available surface in my room was covered in vivariums. I kept frogs, freshwater eels, lizards, etc. I wouldn’t get and keep my first Ball Python until many years later.
Years later while I was on a job in San Diego I found a snake making its way across a busy street and about to get run over by the cars. So I found something to coax him into with the intention of releasing him someplace less populated later. When I got home and took a closer look at him it was clear this wasn’t the typical rattlesnake, gopher snake or even kingsnakes that I was used to seeing on my daily excursions to the river bed. After researching for a bit I found that this was a Ball Python. And that it definitely wasn’t native to California. Which presented the dilemma of where to release him and even if I should release her (as it turned out to be) into the wild. Since my job at the time required me to travel, Cerces became my new travel companion.
While researching Cerces and how to best care for her I discovered that a few morphs existed in the Ball Python world. That led to me attending my first Reptile Show and being introduced to the wonderful world of Ball Python Designer Morphs. Early on there were very few morphs but seeing my first Piebald was what launched what you see here today.
Mission Statement:
Here at Genetic Dreams we like to say “Dream in Color”. That isn’t just a slogan for us, it’s a way of life. All of our projects are to enhance the color, beauty, and health of anything we produce. We are continually upgrading our breeders thru selective breeding or purchases to upgrade the vibrancy of our color. You will note that we work with many enhancer genes – Fire, Sulfur, Brite, Vanilla, Yellow Belly, Fusion, Genetic Dreams Line Pied, and a few unnamed import genes. These genes in addition to selective breeding allows us consistently produce the most visually colorful morphs you will find. A question I’m often asked is “What is the best morph to start with?” The answer is simple- what we do here is WE MAKE LIVING ART. Like any piece of great artwork, it should grab you and never let go. Start with the morph, gene, combo, etc that grabs your heart and never lets go. It should make your heart happy every time you look at it. I have more than a few in my collection that do that for me. It surprises people that they aren’t even the most powerful in my collection. Just simple combos that seem to get better with age.
